Dr. Asep Suryahadi was the director of SMERU from 2009 to 2019. Previously, he was SMERU’s deputy director of research from 2003 to 2009. Among other roles, he was previously a senior researcher at the Center for Policy and Implementation Studies (CPIS). Currently Asep serves as a member of Forum Masyarakat Statistik (FMS), the advisory body of Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS), the national statistical agency. He is also a member of the Editorial Board of the Bulletin of Indonesian Economic Studies (BIES) and the Advisory Board of Indonesia Project, both at the Australian National University.

Dr. Suryahadi published widely in many quality international journals, such as the Journal of Development Economics, World Development, Health Economics, Social Science and Medicine, Education Economics,  and Bulletin of Indonesian Economic Studies. He is one of the most prominent Indonesian academics on poverty.

Dr. Suryahadi holds a doctorate in economics from the Australian National University in Australia, a master’s degree in economics from Pennsylvania State University in the USA, and an undergraduate degree in agribusiness from Bogor Agricultural University (Institut Pertanian Bogor).
